Wood stove

A fireplace is built into the wall and is an open fireplace or fireplace insert, usually made of brick, stone or metal. A wood-burning stove is a free-standing unit with a closed combustion chamber (preferably with glass walls), and is not built into the wall. They are often made of cast iron or steel. It is usually easier to control the heat in a wood-burning stove compared to a fireplace, and they are more efficient when it comes to heat production.

Modern wood stoves can be relatively environmentally friendly alternatives for heating when they are maintained and used correctly. Today's wood-burning stoves, for example, are clean-burning, produce less emissions and are more energy efficient than older fireplaces and stoves. The type of fuel you use also affects the amount of emissions. Different forms of fuel are: wood, pellets and gas.
